Kamika Ekadashi

Kamika Ekadashi falls during the Krishna Paksha (waning phase of the moon) in the month of Shravan. It is one of the most powerful Ekadashis, believed to absolve even the gravest of sins and grant liberation (moksha).

According to the Brahmavaivarta Purana, observing a fast on Kamika Ekadashi and worshipping Lord Vishnu with devotion is equivalent to performing an Ashwamedha Yajna. It is said to remove all obstacles, fulfill desires, and bring peace and prosperity to the devotee's life.

The glories of Kamika Ekadashi were narrated by Lord Krishna to Yudhishthira. Once, a pious Brahmin accidentally killed a bird and was filled with remorse. He observed Kamika Ekadashi with devotion, and all his sins were forgiven. Lord Vishnu appeared in his dream and blessed him, saying that those who observe this Ekadashi with faith will be freed from all sins and attain Vaikuntha.

It is also believed that offering Tulsi leaves to Lord Vishnu on this day is highly auspicious and brings immense spiritual merit.

Devotees can follow these steps to observe Kamika Ekadashi:

• Wake up early, take a holy bath, and resolve to observe the fast.
• Worship Lord Vishnu with Tulsi leaves, flowers, incense, and lamps.
• Chant Vishnu Sahasranama, read the Kamika Ekadashi Vrat Katha, and sing devotional songs.
• Avoid grains, beans, and certain vegetables; consume fruits, milk, and nuts if not on Nirjala (water-only) fast.
• Stay awake at night, engage in kirtan, and meditate on Lord Vishnu.
• Break the fast (Parana) the next day after sunrise during the prescribed time.

Kamika Ekadashi is a sacred tradition observed by millions of devotees. Fasting, chanting, and seva on this day bring spiritual elevation and inner peace. It is a day to surrender to Lord Vishnu and seek his divine grace. The day is especially powerful for removing negative karma and obstacles in life.

Kamika Ekadashi is also known for the special importance of offering Tulsi leaves to Lord Vishnu. It is said that one who offers Tulsi with devotion on this day attains the blessings of Lord Hari and is freed from all past sins. Many devotees also perform Vishnu Sahasranama Archana, recite the Gita, and engage in kirtan throughout the night. The fast is broken the next morning during the Parana time, after offering prayers and bhog to the Lord.
