Ram Navami – The Birth of Lord Rama

Description: Ram Navami is a Hindu festival that celebrates the birth of Lord Rama, the seventh incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Observed on the ninth day (Navami) of the Chaitra month in the Hindu calendar, this festival holds immense significance for devotees who honor Lord Rama’s ideals of righteousness, devotion, and duty. It marks the culmination of Chaitra Navratri and is celebrated with great enthusiasm across India and other parts of the world.

Story of Ram Navami

Ram Navami commemorates the birth of Lord Rama, the prince of Ayodhya and the hero of the epic Ramayana. According to Hindu scriptures, King Dasharatha of Ayodhya and his three queens—Kaushalya, Kaikeyi, and Sumitra—were childless for many years. Seeking divine intervention, Dasharatha performed the Putrakameshti Yajna, a sacred fire ritual conducted by Sage Rishyashringa. As a result, the gods blessed him with a bowl of divine kheer (sweet rice pudding), which he distributed among his queens. Kaushalya gave birth to Lord Rama, Kaikeyi to Bharata, and Sumitra to twins Lakshmana and Shatrughna. Lord Rama was born on the ninth day of the bright half (Shukla Paksha) of Chaitra month. His birth symbolized the arrival of Dharma (righteousness) to defeat evil forces, particularly Ravana, the demon king of Lanka.
